About the Public Rosary

THE PUBLIC ROSARY

The Public Rosary is an international campaign to pray the rosary together in commemoration of the last apparition of Our Lady (October 13, 1917) at Fatima. It is a great opportunity for prayer groups and communities to join together in public prayer.

In 2023, there were 180 groups registered to pray the Rosary throughout Australia.

THE IMPORTANCE

  • It is a public witness of the faith

  • Public Reparation – many blasphemies are taking place in public and so we must also make reparation in public. At Fatima, Our Lady said to the children: "You saw hell, where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish devotion to my Immaculate Heart in the world."

  • We are praying for God’s merciful blessing to be poured out to our country, for conversion of families to turn back to God.

  • Public prayer is powerful: In his monumental work. The Secret of the Rosary, Saint Louis de Montfort states: "Public prayer is far more powerful than private prayer to appease the anger of God and call down His mercy, and His mercy, and Holy Mother Church, guided by the Holy Spirit, has always advocated public prayer in times of public tragedy and suffering."

More Information

Rosary groups may hold their Public Rosaries at any place where members of the public can see the group praying the Rosary. This could be the local park, parish grounds, school grounds, street corner, outside your home etc. For places like shopping centres, please make sure that you contact your local authorities or the business owners for permission to use the space.

Anytime of the day - this depends on the group. Majority of the Rosary Captains have reserved to pray at 12:00 noon to coincide with the rest of the international groups doing the same.

Please contact us via email on publicrosary@fatima.org.au should you need the public liability insurance form. The insurance is only valid for the day of the Public Rosary, and for legal reasons it is not transferrable.

We highly recommend to schedule it on the Saturday closest to the 13th October, so that all the groups in Australia and the rest of the world will be united in prayer. But, if Saturday is not feasible, then you may organise it at a nearest date to October 13, the anniversary of the ‘Miracle of the Sun’ at Fatima. The aim is to get the community involved in public prayer and reparation.

The purpose of this Public Rosary is to make a public act of reparation and so that members of the public can witness this. We do encourage the groups to do this in public, but if for some reason this is not possible then it is better for the group to pray the Rosary inside the Church than not doing it all.

No, we advise and recommend no large group gatherings. You only need a couple of friends or your family praying the rosary in public and that is it!

Find any Rosary location on the map and feel free to join them. However, we advise you to contact the Rosary Captain to ensure public gathering requirements are followed.
